Description
When looking out from a train window, I am sometimes surprised to find people living in such places. Here we can see Japan's characteristic seasonal contrasts, with images of snow-covered fields and leafless trees (winter landscapes) alongside photographs depicting vibrant green rice paddies and lush vegetation (summer landscapes). The images also document Japan's infrastructure - transmission towers, residential neighborhoods, agricultural land, and industrial facilities - showing how these elements coexist within the Japanese landscape.
All subjects pass by and disappear, yet they are traces of people who definitely existed even though I never meet them.
These ideas were reinforced by the difficulty of connecting with people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
These works share the common effect of motion blur created by slow shutter speeds. This emphasizes their transitory nature as passing moments that blend together to form impressions rather than detailed observations. The blurred texture suggests not only physical movement but also how memories of travel become softer and dreamlike over time.(Mar. 2025)
列車の窓から景色を眺めていると、こんなところにも人の暮らしがあるのかと驚くことがあります。この作品には日本らしい季節の対比があり、雪に覆われた畑や葉のない木々（冬の風景）の画像もあれば、鮮やかな緑の水田や豊かな植生（夏の風景）を表す写真もあります。また日本のインフラ - 送電塔、住宅街、農地、工業施設 - も写されており、こうした要素の日本の景観の中における共存も示しています。
すべての被写体は通り過ぎて消え去りますが、会うことはないものの確実に存在していた人々の痕跡です。こうした考えは新型コロナウィルスの流行により人とのつながりが困難になったことで強化されていきました。
本作品には共通して低速シャッターによるブラー効果があります。これにより、詳細な観察というよりも印象を形成するために混ざり合う、過ぎ去る一瞬として一時的な性質が強調されています。ぼやけた質感は、物理的な動きだけでなく、旅の記憶が時間とともに柔らかく夢のようになっていく様子も示唆しています。（2025年3月）

Speed and Stillness - Japan's sacred mountain from its fastest train
Description
This work presents Japan's iconic peak as viewed through the windows of a Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train. The images were taken from inside a train moving at speeds of over 200 km/h, and the sense of speed is expressed as a strong motion blur.
In one photo, a snow-capped Mt. Fuji stands out clearly behind a townscape, with residential areas and cars flowing in the foreground. In other images, the sacred mountain stands in stark relief against the azure sky at dusk, with industrial structures dominating the foreground.. Another photo captures a small Mt. Fuji appearing in the distance from a lush green tea plantation.
Mt. Fuji, which can be seen in fragments during everyday journeys like this, may be the “real” Mt. Fuji for many Japanese people, rather than on a clear day without a single cloud. It is also a common sight among many passengers, especially businesspeople who board the Shinkansen on business trips. No matter how busy they are, they often stop their work when they see Mt. Fuji. This high-speed passing scenery is etched in our common memory as Japanese people.
This is not just a beautiful landscape, but can be read as a cultural record that captures the intersection of two symbolic elements of Japan Mt. Fuji and the Shinkansen. Particularly significant are the factories and residential zones spreading before the hallowed peak, illustrating how this natural monument does not exist in isolation but continuously coexists with human civilization and industry. By framing both Japan's natural icon and human activities within a single composition, this work transcends conventional landscape or railroad photography to become a social commentary on contemporary Japan's multifaceted identity. この作品は、東海道新幹線の車窓から捉えた富士山の姿を写したものです。時速200km以上で高速移動する車内から撮影されており、その速度感が強いモーションブラーとして表現されています。
ある写真では、雪を頂いた富士山が町並みの背後に鮮明に浮かび上がり、手前には住宅地や車が流れるように写り込んでいます。他の写真では、薄暮の中で雪化粧した富士山が青い空を背景に映え、工業地帯らしき構造物が前景に広がっています。また、緑豊かな茶畑の中から遠くに小さく見える富士山を捉えた写真もあります。
雲一つない晴れた日よりも、このように日常の移動の中で断片的に見える富士山こそが、多くの日本人にとっての「リアル」な富士山の姿なのかもしれません。また、多くの乗客、中でも出張で新幹線に乗車するビジネスマンたちは、どれほど忙しくても、車窓から富士山が見えると仕事の手を止め、その姿に目を奪われる光景がよく見られます。この高速で過ぎ去る景色は、我々日本人にとって共通の記憶として刻み込まれています。
これは単なる美しい風景ではなく、日本の象徴的な二つの要素「富士山と新幹線」の交差を捉えた文化的記録として読み取ることができます。注目すべきは、富士山の手前に広がる工場群や住宅地です。その聖なる山は決して孤立して存在するのではなく、常に人間の生活や産業と共存しています。
こうした人間活動と自然の象徴である富士山が一つのフレームに収められることで、この作品は単なる風景写真や鉄道写真の域を超え、現代日本の複層的なアイデンティティを捉えた社会的ドキュメントとなっています。（2025年3月）
